In times of old, the mind, body, and spirit of woman were revered as some of the most mystical aspects of life. By embodying all things cosmic about human nature, woman was of such pivotal importance to her family and community, her nature was set to music and given a dance that everyone partook in. The "Ya Gamila!" Belly Dancing Organization is a non-profit, charitable group of Old Dominion University students and faculty. Dancers, musicians, any and all else are welcome to our community. We are joined together mentally, spiritually, and physically through one of the oldest forms of self expression in the world... BELLY DANCE!!!
We teach the traditional, folk movements as well as offer further stylistic instruction into other various styles (Egyptian cabaret, American tribal style, Fusion, Gothic/New age, prop incorporation, etc.) Our instructors have more than 15 years of dance experience between them and can provide you with a full, quality learning experience. Meetings will pick back up for our next season on the 14th of January, every Monday or Tuesday evening (whichever works best with your schedule) on campus in the Student Recreational Center. Classes are COMPLETELY FREE for ODU students, faculty and staff.

These are some of our favorite dance tunes. There are many different genres that can work for belly dance, but this archive contains classic and influenced songs. Feel free to download anything you like, and you can also upload to this archive by utilizing the expanded option of the widget (will open in a seperate window). A 4shared.com account of your own (free), as well as our password, ygbdo, is required to gain access to our song bank.
